Logistics & Schedules

Logistics:  The RATS dates for academic year 2013-2014 are: Monday 2/3, Tuesday 2/25, Monday 3/31, Monday 4/7, and Friday 5/23.   The entire session is held at George Washington University Hospital campus, utilizing their state of the art simulation facilities.  You can drive, carpool, metro, etc. but are responsible for arranging your own transportation to and from GW that day.  Breakfast and coffee will be provided.  For lunch, you’ll have an hour to grab lunch out on the town!  There are several lunch spots in the Foggy Bottom area-- Devon & Blakely, Burger Tap & Shake, SweetGreen, Roti, and Whole Foods to name a few!

Schedule:

• 7:45 am:  Arrive at GW, CLASS Center, 6^th Floor of the Main Hospital (turn LEFT twice when getting off the elevators, walk straight back to the Center).  Follow your nose to the coffee and breakfast that awaits you.
• 7:45-8:15 am:  Welcome& Introductions
• 8:15-4:30 pm: 
  • The first activity will be the Objective Structured Teaching Evaluation (OSTE) in which you will interact with standardized learners over the content presented during the day. This will help you and us understand your baseline skills and knowledge.
  • The day will be punctuated with self-directed learning and questions (referred to as the flipped classroom) followed by workshops on the material.  We’ll be discussing Orienting a Learner, Giving Feedback, and Teaching a Skill.
  • You will repeat the OSTE at the end of the day to assess your improvements and effectiveness of our teaching.  You will also complete questionnaires to inform us of your attitudes, skills, and reflections.
  • There will be an hour break for lunch
