Because we have fewer telemedicine sessions than we do residents, you will have a number of sessions for self-directed study.  Here are some suggestions.

REACH

PL2/3- You are not assigned REACH time but you can use time during CHC rotations for your REACH project.  If you were scheduled to give a poster or session at a national meeting, then work with your mentor to see about writing it up for publication.

PL1- Are you planning to apply for REACH time next year?  Then use some of this time to identify a research mentor and project.  Remember it is always easier to join a project, then to start one on your own.  If you haven’t done the CITI modules, then do them now so you can be ready to be added to an IRB (Log onto www.citiprogram.org and register as a user. Then select “Children’s National Medical Center” on the organizations drop down list.)   If you are planning to be involved in survey research, do the training for RedCAP (https://cri-datacap.org).

TEACHING SKILLS

  1. Coursera on-line course “Teaching and Assessing Clinical Skills” (https://www.coursera.org/learn/clinical-skills ).   It is free and you can do all of it OR you can just do the modules that look interesting to you.  It is among the most practical medical education courses that I have come across and applicable to both inpatient and outpatient settings.

  2. https://www.aamc.org/what-we-do/mission-areas/medical-education/curriculum-inventory/establish-your-ci/webinars  Webinars on Curriculum Development in the Covid-19 era as well as a link to virtual courses on MedEdPortal

PRIMARY CARE

  1. You need to do at least 12 of the PEAC modules/year.  Pick the ones that interest you the most.

  2. Learn more about breastfeeding – Resident Book -> Teach and Learning Resources -> General Pediatrics-> Breastfeeding Cases

  3. CDC Website- explore new recommendations for STI treatment via telehealth, autism and development resources etc.
