What Guys Do When Their Girlfriends Are Away

Reasons Why Your Ex Continues To Use You

I think also men don’t realize that regardless of the changes in society, we often look to them to set the tone. Maybe next date he could offer to have dinner at home. Or see if she makes “the reach.”

I’m sort of on the other end of this. I’m totally broke right now as I’m rebuilding my life and shifting my career, and my boyfriend understands this. And usually when I make “the reach” like today at lunch, he beats me to it. *sigh* but I do get him little presents quite often and I cook and do what I can, when I can.

My thought process is the same as yours, AtlantaGirl10. I’m also a democrat located in ATL, by the way!) I was raised by my grandparents and I let guys know from the very beginning that I am old school when it comes to dating. I will never pay for a date or ask a man out. I want to be courted and pursued as a woman. Now of course, on the flip side, I love hosting dinner dates also. I think relationships are all about balance and understanding and accepting each other. I think it’s clear that this girl in letter #1 doesn’t feel that as a women she should pay. I think the guy needs to talk with her and find out if that is the case. Then he can choose whether to accept it or to move on. I don’t think she should be viewed, however, as a moocher,  because her dating style varies from his.

@Atlantagirl- “courting?” LOL. That IS old-fashioned and I love it. I’m an Atlanta girl too and you only hear that kind of stuff in the South!

I tell my baby sister- let him pay at first. It lets you know if he’s been raised on “how to treat a lady.” I know, it’s old-fashioned, but it’s a clue that he’ll treat you well in other ways too.

But after a few dates, she needs to pay sometimes. Otherwise the power structure is all off and he’ll think of her as a pet instead of an equal.
