Brittany Leeman MS, BSN, RN
Clinical Supervisor: GI Clinic
I began my Nursing Career at Boston Children’s Hospital in 2008 as a Clinical Nurse on the BMT unit after completing an externship in the unit as a Nursing Student. Through work I was doing for my Honor’s program, I started a qualitative research project prior to graduating. I was lucky to have my Poster accepted at the 2009 COG/APHON meeting.
In 2010, eager for new experiences, I moved to California to spend couple of years as a travel nurse, working General Pediatric and Pediatric Oncology assignments spanning inpatient, infusion, and clinic settings.
After returning to San Francisco several times for assignments in their Pediatric Infusion Center, I made UCSF my home in 2013. For a couple of years I worked in their Ambulatory Float Pool, aided by the skills I developed in adaptability as a travel nurse and learning so much about different Ambulatory areas. I also completed a Master’s Degree in Healthcare Administration and Interprofessional Leadership during this time. My capstone project focused on decreasing ED admissions through improved access to RN support and teaching in the Clinic.
In 2015, I started working for the Pediatric Medical Specialty Clinics at USCF as a Procedure Nurse and Charge Nurse. In 2017, I gratefully accepted an opportunity to become the Interim Nurse Manager of this same unit. I was able to produce two Posters for the UCSF Improvement Symposium in 2019. One poster reviewed a Safety Initiative, increasing our rates of Flu Vaccination. The second was on improving insurance reimbursement for high dollar Clinic-Administered medications.
Throughout my 12 years of Nursing practice, and my five years of leadership experience, I have greatly enjoyed the opportunities to help staff grow and find satisfaction in their work. This is probably my favorite part of being a leader: making someone else’s day better.
