Lean is a management philosophy that focuses on improving processes. Lean management principles have been used effectively in manufacturing companies for decades. With the rapidly changing dynamics of the healthcare industry, lean principles can be applied to healthcare with a positive impact on safety, quality, efficiency, cost, and timely delivery of care.

Every day in healthcare, each of us participates in multiple, complex processes to care for our kids, accomplish our tasks and provide value to the customer or patient. Waste in a variety of forms (time, supplies, patient waiting, etc.) decreases value for our patients and the organization.

Lean is about making the right work easier to do... it is not just another initiative for Children's National. Lean is part of our ongoing journey to continuously improve the quality, safety and experience of care in a culture centered around the patient and family. It involves a continuous learning environment and engaging you - the Power of One.
