Program Leadership Team

Gabrina Dixon, MD, MEd (HEAR-PHM Co-Director)
Dr. Dixon is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences. She is a pediatric hospitalist at Children’s National Hospital since 2009. In this role, her primary responsibility is to teach fellows, residents and medical students about general pediatrics and pediatric hospital medicine care. She is double board-certified in Pediatrics and Pediatric Hospital Medicine. She received a Master of Arts in Education from George Washington University in 2018. She serves as the director of Children’s National Advancing Diversity in Academic Pediatrics (ADAP) program, which goal is to increase the number of underrepresented in medicine 4th year medical students to pursue a career in academic pediatrics. She has done curricular development for faculty, fellows, residents, and medical students at Children’s National and nationally. In 2021, Dr. Dixon was the inaugural recipient of the Pediatric Hospital Medicine Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Leadership award. She has publications on diversity, equity, inclusion and bias in academic medicine and medical education curriculum development.


Kavita Parikh, MD, MSHS (HEAR-PHM Co- Director)   
Dr. Parikh is a board-certified Pediatric Hospital Medicine attending at Children’s National Hospital in Washington DC.  She was promoted to Professor of Pediatrics with Tenure at The George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences in 2024. Dr. Parikh serves as the Research Director of the Division of Hospital Medicine and Medical Director of Quality and Safety Research at Children’s National Hospital in Washington DC. Dr. Parikh is a health services and patient-oriented researcher with expertise in both large database research and patient/family-centered clinical trial design. She is committed to a career as an independent researcher in patient-centered outcomes research and completed a career training award through the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality. Her active research portfolio includes R-level grants funded by AHRQ to study disparities in pediatric safety events, and by NIH to address disparities in health outcomes for children with asthma and to a lead health equity research education. Her interests include improving inpatient care, hospital to home transitions, and addressing disparities to advance healthcare equity. Dr. Parikh is actively involved in mentoring students, trainees, and faculty, and has a strong interest in faculty and inter-professional development.


Amina Touma, BA (HEAR-PHM Program Manager)   
Ms. Touma is the Senior Clinical Research Coordinator for the Hospital Medicine Division at Children’s National Hospital in Washington, DC. She has over 3 years of clinical research experience and has worked on a variety of research projects, including therapeutic phase I, II, and III clinical trials, retrospective, and qualitative studies.
